5 COVID-Friendly Summer Vacation Ideas
Congrats, we made it halfway through 2020!!
Wow, what a year 2020 has already been. Australia was on fire, Megan & Prince Harry left the royal family…oh and let’s not forget about the murder hornets in May!
This summer has been a weird one for me, as I am experiencing my first summer with no NFL cheer training and I am still up in NC with my family rather than in Tampa, FL. Mostly for safety reasons, but also have you lived in FL during the summer?? It’s nasty.
Summers for me usually start around May, when I’d travel somewhere for my birthday & finish with another trip around end of August/September before football season got going. But this year, as we all are experiencing, summer trips are no more. Heck, America is still on the banned list from the EU and the UK will only let Americans in if they agree to quarantine for 14 days. And yes, some countries like Cambodia, Aruba, and Mexico have opened borders to US citizens, but I HIGHLY encourage my fellow travel lovers to still pause on international travel.

So, how can you still feed your wanderlust while keeping safe this summer season? Check out these ideas below!
Rent a Beach House
Over this past week leading up to the Fourth of July, my family rented an oceanfront beach house. And boy, it was JUST what we needed. Being in a space where we felt safe at the beach was amazing. We stayed at Sunset Beach where the walk ways are one way, everyone was spaced out on the flat sand, and we only ate at a restaurant outside once. This is a great way to relax & still keep your risk low. RISK LEVEL: Low
Go Camping (or glamping)
Maybe it’s the mountain gal in me from my college days at Appalachian State, but I LOVE the mountains. The fresh air just invigorates my soul. Now is the perfect time to get out in nature, put your phone on airplane mode, and just be present in the moment. Whether you stay in a tent or find a mountain cabin, be sure to continue social distancing when around others. RISK LEVEL: Low
Roadtrip
When I suggest road trip, technically I mean ALL of these ideas to be a car trip away. Driving helps keep the COVID risk down rather than flying & stimulates your local economy. But for this suggestion, I mean road trip to a nearby city to check out their hiking trails or maybe do a day trip to the beach if you can’t afford a full week rental. Continue to safely explore by driving. RISK LEVEL: Low to Medium
Staycation
As it sounds, staying in a hotel is great to just have a change of pace for a day or two. Our own homes can make it difficult to fully relax, especially with mixing in working remote. Make sure the hotel you stay at has COVID safety protocols, and when you enter your room wipe down the common surfaces like door knobs, TV remotes, and remove the bedspread. RISK LEVEL: Low to Medium
Rent and RV/ Bus
I follow a few travel community pages on FB, and the most popular content was from people renovating buses & vans into mobile homes. And not just a simple reno, I mean like something out of Fixer upper that would make Chip & Joanna Gaines proud. But it’s a genius idea in this season really. Especially if it’s including your bathroom/shower. Bonus is your bed goes with you! Obviously, if you do end up using public facilities, wear your mask & wash your hands. RISK LEVEL: Low to Medium
These are just a few ideas to help keep the wandering spirit alive during this weird travel season. Let me know what types of trips you are taking or how you are able to still safely explore locally!
Sincerely,
Sarah
