Hey there!

I’m a 20 something adventurer sharing my journey dancing through destinations. I’d like to think of myself as a travel logistical wizard. Whether you are balling on a budget, solo traveling, or have only 2 weeks PTO a year, my travel blog can apply to any solo traveler. Enjoy my stories & tips as I dance through life!

My biggest pet peeves while traveling

My biggest pet peeves while traveling

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there. That person who takes up half your seat or the kid who can’t stop screaming makes you think “are we there yet?”

Traveling heightens things that would just be little annoyances into major headaches once you jam hundreds of people together in a tiny air bus. And normally, we all sit there and stay calm but man some things just annoy the heck out of me and I’m sure you too! Even just recently on a flight a gentleman sat in my aisle seat, then asked that I take the window instead. No sir, we all picked our seats ahead of time, this isn’t Southwest (and mind you I paid a little extra for the aisle).

But it doesn’t just stop at the flight over, there are some other traveler behaviors I wanted to point out that irk me especially with how global the world is today. So check out my list of travel pet peeves and let me know if you agree or disagree with any:

  1. That person who keeps kicking your seat. New rule- you kick me, I throw back my seat on your knees. Kidding.

  2. The people that stand up immediately when we land. Unless you TRULY have to catch another plane, sit down and just wait. It took us 30 minutes to board, it’s not gonna be only 5 minutes to get off.

  3. That person who takes up both arm rests. Yes I realize some people have said the middle seat gets two and that I can handle.

  4. People who use IPads to take photos….it’s just silly. And you are probably blocking someone else’s view.

  5. The people who stand in front of the boarding lines well before we even start boarding when they are probably in the middle to last groups anyway.

  6. When you purposely only pack a carry-on bag (because you don’t want to deal with waiting for baggage claim) only to have to check it at the gate because there is no overhead bin space. Usually that’s because people put more than their one item and don’t use the leg room below.

  7. When people allow their kids to play video games with the sound on and no headphones (lets face it, adults are JUST as bad about this one).

  8. That person who thinks they are too good to turn their phone on airplane mode. It’s about SAFETY people, they don’t make up these rules for the fun of it.

  9. When the person behind you forcefully taps the touch screen in the middle of your overnight flight and you feel like you are being poked by a little sibling. It’s a touch screen, like touch football.

  10. People who get to the front of the TSA line and act like they’ve never taken off a shoe before.

  11. Talking obnoxiously loud. On the plane, in a restaurant, at a museum. Be respectful of the space, but ESPECIALLY when in another country.

  12. Travel buddies who only want to do stereotypical tourist items or eat at chain restaurants. NOPE, we are not travel buddies anymore.

And my NUMBER ONE biggest pet peeve while traveling….

People who make ZERO effort to speak the native language of the country they are visiting.

It’s simple, learn 5 key phrases. It will go a long way! No matter what country I go to I always try to learn how to say things like “hello”, “Thank you”, “ where’s the bathroom?”, and “no” in their language. It’s fun to ask locals at your restaurant or on a tour how to say other phrases too. You are traveling to open up your mind and heart to new cultures!

But even with all these little annoyances that can occur while traveling, I still LOVE it. What I’ve learned from creating this little pet peeves list is that we can all gain from a little more patience and grace in this world, a little awareness while traveling can make a world a difference.

What are your Pet Peeves while traveling?

Sincerely,

Sarah
