5 places you need to visit in England in 2024
Hey stranger, been a while.
One of my 2024 goals was actually to write at least one blog post a month (my word of 2024 professionally is consistency) so realllly coming in under the wire on the last day here of January. BUT NONETHELESS, I’m back & hopefully for good this time 🤗
Today’s blog is actually inspired by my own travels around the UK since moving to London 2 1/2 years ago. I find myself actually loving to explore different towns within the UK, and want to share some of the lesser known ones I’ve loved with you. Don’t get me wrong, I love a big city escape and obviously we have options around the UK like London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, etc. but in my ripe old age of 32, I’m really enjoying slowing down and finding quintessential English town escapes instead.
Let me know if you’ve been to any of these or if you have any suggestions on places I should travel to next!
Harrogate
If you’ve visited London, you might’ve noticed there’s a brand of water called Harrogate spring. And that’s exactly what this town is known for: spas, and delicious mineral water. About 2 1/2 hour train ride from London, it’s easily accessible for a nice overnight trip to the northern countryside.Take a dip in the Turkish baths, indulge in afternoon tea at Betty’s, and stroll through the many local shops. 2. Salcombe
If you follow me on instagram (@sincerelysarah.co), you know my obsession with Devon/Cornwall. I swear I’ve never felt more at peace than when I’m out there (but that might just be the hospitality & two cute pups at my friend’s house haha). On my last girls trip down there, we visited Salcombe & it’s the cutest seaside town. Plenty of shopping, beautiful views, yummy pastys & there’s a ferry boat with a cool tractor that can take you along other beaches as well. Perfect seaside escape.
3. Torquay
Are we surprised its another Devon beach town? No, we are not haha. For the August bank holiday, I took myself on a getaway to Torquay, with no expectations, but it really was a lovely place. Again, the theme seems to be me rating spas around the UK, but we did stay at a lovely hotel & spa, with views out to the water 😍 so peaceful. I also still dream about the lavender latte from Kalipso. You have hiking, sandy beaches, jet skiing, fancy rooftop bars, boardwalk style arcades, & even a Michelin star restaurant called the Elephant, so you can be as boujee or beach bummed as you want. More details on things to do & where to stay can be found HERE.
4. Canterbury / Whistable
OK, this is one that’s on my bucket list for 2024 so of course it should be on yours as well! And also giving you a 2-for-1 deal 😉. A spring/summer destination, Canterbury is the idyllic British fairytale town, with gorgeous views punting down the river. You will feel like out of a page of Canterbury tales. Plus, Whitstable is only a 10 minute bus ride away & you’ll be able to enjoy amazing seafood along the colorful coastline of this seaside village.
5. York
Harry Potter fans and chocolate lovers. Rejoice! This is another one that’s on my 2024 UK bucket list, and only a 20 minute train ride from Leeds. This town gives me sleepy Hollow meets Diagon ally vibes. Also, apparently, it’s big for foodies! I feel like this would be the perfect fall spooky weekend getaway, complete with a food tasting walking tour & harry potter scene scouting.
Sincerely,
Sarah
