Why I didn’t like Vegas

Why I didn’t like Vegas

I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t click bait. I truly didn’t like Vegas.

It’s not that I HATED Vegas, but I wasn’t a huge fan. I should say I did come mainly for work, in February, so that probably contributed to my overall experience. But I’m certainly not booking a flight back anytime soon.

Obviously these are just MY opinions below. I know people who love it, so take them all with a pinch of salt 😉

  1. The smoking

You are allowed to smoke inside the casinos, and weed is also legal in Nevada. It was overwhelming…it got in your hair, your clothes, your eyes. 🙅🏻‍♀️ I had a massive headache most of the week. And don’t even get me started on how dark they make it in the casinos, you come outside and are blinded by the sun.

2. Gambling

I don’t like giving away my money, unless its for a fun experience. I don’t qualify losing hundreds due to a 1 in 38 probably of winning at roulette as a fun experience. 🎲 Seriously, I’d rather gamble with investments.

I did however, bet $100 on the Eagles winning the Super Bowl, just so I could say I gambled in Vegas. While it was at least an entertaining three hours, it still was not fun even losing that small amount.

3. The strip is too long

It probably didn’t help we were staying at the Mandalay Bay, which is the end of the strip (you can actually see it in my welcome to Vegas sign photo). So it was great for seeing the sign, but just to get two hotels over took over 20 minutes. We had to walk 3.5 miles just to get to the Venetian and other more popular hotels to explore. You just don’t realize the scale of the buildings until you start walking from one to the next.

4. Felt unsafe

Okay, almost any city can have it’s times of feeling unsafe. But strangely, I felt the most unsafe walking around before 11am when the strip is a ghost town. You know me, I love a coffee and a walk, and it made me upset that I didn’t feel I could go walk the strip by myself because of crude things strangers were saying & the amount of homeless/drunk people who would approach you.

5. The weather

I was shocked at just how dry the air is in Vegas. By day 3 I wanted to take an oatmeal bath to try and replenish my skin. I felt like a fish with no water and went through an extra bottle of lotion haha. It was also freezing, which I know would be better had we come closer to summer, but I also can’t imagine walking around in the heat either. 🙈

6. It’s not relaxing

Okay, this one isn’t fair because Vegas is the LAST place I would go for a relaxing holiday. But what I mean is, you are barely sleeping, jet lagged, just going nonstop & its party time all day long. Plus like we said earlier, they keep it so dark inside that you truly have no idea what time it is. So yeah, I can see why people say 3 days in Vegas is plenty.

Sorry to all my readers who are big fans of Vegas, hopefully we’re all still friends after this😅

I know I only got a small taste of the Vegas experience - we didn’t have time to go see a show, it was too cold to go to a pool party, and I didn’t go to any clubs. The closest thing to Vegas nightlife we experienced was the piano bar at the New York hotel, because it was the easiest to get to from Mandalay Bay haha.

I’m sure I’ll be coming back to Vegas at some point, especially because I still want to go to a pool party with an EDM DJ! But considering it’s a 10+ hour flight to get there from the UK and the jet lag is pretty terrible (8 hour time difference), I’d probably have to tack it onto another US destination to make it worth the trip.

What are your thoughts? Tell me if you did or didn’t like Vegas in the comments! 🎲♠️

Sincerely,

Sarah
