How to make your home as comfy as a luxury hotel
Anyone else getting real bored of their current home decor?
I think we’ve all been staring at the same walls and TV for too long haha. I actually MISS a hotel right now; just the feel of a new space rather than my same four walls.
Last week I got an upgrade to my quarantine situation because my parents let me have the guest bedroom. It has a built in desk, it’s own bathroom, and I even found fluffy robes in the closet. Plus I have access to that beautiful bath tub in their master bathroom. SCORE! Almost makes me think I’m at a bed & breakfast in the countryside of Ireland rather than my childhood home. The other guests are great too!
What I’ve always loved most about staying in hotels (besides the whole “newness” feeling) is the unique designs of a luxury hotel room, the smells and amenities. So how do you replicate that without totally redecorating? Let me tell you a few ways how.
Upgrade your mattress
If it’s been more than 7 years since you bought your mattress, it might be time for a new one. Signs of an old mattress needing to be replaced:
Back aches
Dipped in on one area/side
Not feeling rested when you wake up
Creaks or squeaks in a spring mattress
Bad dust allergies
What’s great about this is most memory foam mattress companies will ship the bed directly to your home. Just roll it out from the packaging and it will self inflate! I did that when I moved to Florida and it was super convenient.
Switch out your bedding
Whenever I think of a hotel bed, I think of crisp white sheets. Maybe you step yours up by picking a high count, comfy fabric in white. Add an extra hotel flair by rolling your towels and other linens in a cross shape pattern to display on your bed.
Set up your own cocktail bar
While you can’t go down to the lobby lounge to get your best handmade cocktail, you can make one at home to sip on the sofa. Make sure you are well equipped with everything you’d need for a home bar including:
Rock glasses
Collins glasses
Coupe glasses
Shaker
Bar Spoon
Hawthorne Strainer
Ice
Juice press
Jiggers
Muddler
Basic liquors and mixers!
It’s all about the extras
I remember staying at the Landmark hotel in London and the biggest thing that stood out to me was the turn down service. Someone literally came in every night around 8pm to “turn down” our beds and lay out nice comfy slippers and a robe. While you may not have a maid to do turn down service in your house, you CAN get extra comfy by making sure you have your own fuzzy slippers and a soft robe.
Sleep in with pitch black curtains
There are other ways to improve your sleep besides buying a new mattress, including investing in pitch black curtains. I personally like to rise with the sun, but when wanting to enjoy a movie in the middle of the afternoon pitch black curtains are perfect. You can also improve your sleep by purchasing a silk eye mask.
Pick a signature scent
Hotels use scents to create an atmosphere. Scents can bring up memories and feelings. Fresh cut grass? North Carolina. Eucalyptus? Relaxed automatically thinking of my local spa. Having a signature scent that brings up feelings of relaxation and freshness can help bring a new mood to the room. W hotels even has their own home scent line, Weston has a room spray you can purchase, and Ritz Carlton has their own signature candle.
Brighten the room with fresh florals
We all know flowers make peoples day. Get some flowers delivered to your house by a local floral shop to help a small business and bring the mood up. Or if you are worried about cost, go with some silk ones to last you this whole month of Quarantine. My personal favorite flowers are peonies and hydrangeas.
Stay strong, Stay home, and cozy up to those Travel Movies I listed a few weeks back! I’ll see you next week friends!

Sarah
