ABC's of Travel Attire
Or as I like to call it:
Anything-but-basic Business Casual
Being well dressed can change your entire travel experience. Maybe you are looking to get bumped up to first class…maybe you are traveling for work and want to represent your brand well… or maybe you are just a flying fashionista. Either way, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort over fashion! ( I can hear Blair Waldorf shaking her head as I type this).
In just a few short weeks I will be flying across the pond for the NFL London game! Because I am representing my company while traveling, I won’t be in my usual sweats for this overnight flight. Le sigh… BUT I did some research and instead came up with some great outfit options that are not only comfy but still professional. Thank goodness for stretchy pants am I right?
Below are some tried & tested outfits that will make the plane aisle more like your runway:
Stretchy black pants and tailored blazer.
Nothing says classic Blair Waldorf fashion like a blazer with a pop of color. Only thing missing in this outfit is a headband. I love that these pants are basically like silky pajama pants AND they have pockets! The blazer is also of a breathable material so you won’t feel stuffy when stuck in your seat.
2. Suede trench coat and wide legged pants.
I loved this second outfit the most, and not just because the photos turned out beautifully in the TPA outdoor patio space. This outfit is chic, simple, but still dignified. The suede green trench coat gives it an expensive flair but the stretchy gaucho pants & sweater feel top says comfort. The trench coat is heavy enough like a blanket but still breathable instead of a stiff coat.
3. Plaid pants and polished jacket.
Okay yes, this one is a bit more professional than business casual, but I wanted to give a wide range of options! I love how transitional this jacket is and the pants are you guessed it, elastic! This top is literally like hugging a cozy blanket which makes this outfit a comfy choice. Although I’m wearing heels in the photo, I’d switch out to my compression socks once seated.
4. Classic all black.
Basics in black are always in style. Just make sure your pieces are not faded and are all of similar material. I decided to spruce this outfit up with my cheetah head scarf and cozy cardigan. You can go all black or add your own pops of patterns. This is the most comfy choice of the four options and also the easiest to stack layers with.
Some other tips:
Notice in all the photos I’m not wearing any jewelry. This helps get through the security line faster and so you don’t have your necklace rubbing against your skin the whole flight. Pack up your favorite jewelry safely in your carry on bag.
I prefer no skirts or dresses to keep less of your bare leg touching the dirty seat. It also allows more sleeping positions on the plane.
Layers are key.
Stick with three complimentary colors. Two neutral, one pop of color. For example, this upcoming trip I’m sticking with black, white, and light blue.
Op out of a wired bra ladies & go for a nude bralette with these outfits.
Wear your heavier shoes/coats onto the plane to save packing space.
ALWAYS wear socks (yes even with heels). Don’t be that person in the TSA line with their bare feet against the disgusting airport floor making us cringe.
